I wish I could answer that question for you. Regrettably, I really don’t think I can. In fact, I’m going to do something profoundly irritating and answer your question with one of my own.

When you ask, ‘What’s the best self-help product for me?’ what specifically do you mean by ‘me’?

Now I don’t want to get tangled up in an existential discussion, here. The nature of reality and identity will have to wait for another day. However, just reflect over the last few days. Think about a situation when you were relaxed (taking a deep bath, maybe). Consider a time when you were anxious (your computer kept crashing). Think about a situation when you were livid (your PC still kept crashing and the systems support people suggested you try switching it off and back on again). Think about a time when you were happy (drinking great coffee with loving friends). Think about all those times: was it in reality the same ‘me’ who occupied each of those little moments in time? Is the seething ‘me’ the same as the content ‘me’? For most of us, the answer is no. We are not the same individual from one day to the next, and on our more hapless days, we’re not even the same person from one minute to the next.

Walt Whitman put it most succinctly, I think, when he wrote ‘I contain multitudes’.

We all do. We all ‘contain multitudes’.
